Beware of Dream-Killers

Everything good and precious requires protection. There is always an enemy, whether it is human agent or the devil himself, whose goal is to take away from you something you consider valuable.

You lock your car doors, your house doors, and gates because of your consciousness of a thief. Though you trust God, you obviously do not trust the thieves.

That is why you make a deliberate decision to set up some kind of security measures to protect your valuables. You take responsibility for guarding what is yours.

In the same manner, whatever you’ve been given by God, whether it is a blessing or dream, will require a battle to safeguard it. Why is this necessary? It is necessary because we have an adversary, the devil, who walks about, often times in familiar faces, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

The bible says his passion is to steal and kill and destroy (John10:10). Anything good is contested against by everything evil. Knowingly or unknowing, we are in a continuous battle against the enemy for ownership. Sometimes we succeed in protecting, or taking back what is rightly ours. But other times we relinquish it to the enemy due to lack of vigilance or ignorance.

Do you have a goal, dream or vision? How important is it to you? Wisdom teaches us that not everything has the same value. Everything has a different worth. Thus, your passion to protect anything is always proportionate to its value to you.

If your dream is really important to you, you will have to enter into a spiritual battle to secure it. You will be willing to invest prayers to nullify al the wiles of the devil against your dream; such as fear, misplaced trust, lack of focus, distractions, and dream-killers (which is my focus for today).

It is crucial that you identify dream-killers in your environments. Pinpoint those who trivialise your dreams and tear down your self-esteem.

Detect and stay away from those in whose presence your passion to pursue your dream diminishes. Disconnect from those in whose environment your fear grows, your doubts flourish and your confidence shrinks. Then pursue those who inspire you and whose counsels unleash faith, hope and confidence in you.

Customise your world. Qualify those with whom you share your valuable time. The environment you are in matters greatly regarding your success. Where you are determines what you hear. And what you hear decides your energy. Don’t just choose friends because they are cute and funny. Let your goals and passion choose your friends.

As I’ve always said, friends are never mere companions; they are agents for your success or failure. The influence you permit in your life will decide the eventuality of your dreams.  Every environment has a deferent deposit. Each human has a different impartation. Therefore, be real and sincere to yourself regarding the various influences people around you are having on your dreams. If you can remain in the environment that motivates and unlocks your energy, you can achieve your dreams in life.

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17
