Don’t be Ignorant of the Schemes of the Devil

Satan finds his lack of capability to exert authority over believers incredibly exasperating. Jesus had stripped him of the power and dominion he once acquired though deception; thereby restoring the dominion of the earth onto believers (Luke 10:19; Psalm 115:16). The devil has no power over you anymore, if you belong to Jesus. The only person that can stop you is YOU.

Satan can never destroy you without your permission. You decide the success or failure of Satan in your life. Whatever you do not permit will not conquer you. But the danger is this; ignorance is also permission. Ignorance is Satan’s permission to capitalise. Ignorance is like standing on the frontline of a ferocious war without knowing. That is why ignorance is so deadly. But the good news is, as believers, we have the Holy Spirit within us. He confronts our ignorance (1 Corinthians 2:12).

The enemy that remains unknown remains unchallenged. And an unchallenged enemy often wins. Satan is greatly aware of this truth, and that is why he has perfected his act as a schemer. He will never entre into your life frowning. He always comes smiling. He appears as an angel of lights. He arrives as a wolf in sheep clothing. He is renowned for subtlety; with a view to lure our focus away from God, pervert our judgment, and captivate our imagination.

He thrives through deceptions and tricks. His greatest passion is to break your focus. I will never forget; we had an extraordinary fellowship with the Holy Spirit in our House Fellowship recently. The Holy Spirit spoke to us about REST. At the end of the meeting everyone was incredibly inspired and was full of the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit.

As one of our members got home that night, Satan launched an attack to break her focus by tricking her to major on the shortcomings of her teenage daughter, instead of the joy of the Holy Spirit. She did not discern the devil’s trick. As a result, she became agitated, disturbed and restless, leading to an unpleasant night of sleeplessness. The devil knows that if you can maintain your focus on the Lord, there is no hope for him. Therefore, he will do everything to distract you away from God.

Whatever keeps your attention will also decide your feelings; and your feelings will decide your peace or stress. The bible says, “so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs” (2 Corinthians 2:11).  Satan wants to take advantage of anything in your environment to break your focus. But it is your responsibility to be aware of his devices. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up with the Spirit of discernment, the wisdom to put things in perspective and the fortitude to overlook the trivial.

Jesus set an example for us. He overcame Satan’s temptations by saying, “It is written…” He conquered by the Word of God. Use the Word to nullify every demonic suggestions and inclinations in your mind. Exercise your authority as a believer. The devil cannot withstand the Power of the Word. Resist Him scripturally and He will flee from you. Start to pour the Word of the Living God into your mind for strength, inspiration and focus. Remember, your future will always follow the direction of your dominant thoughts. You are an overcomer. Live it!

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5
