Dread Going To Work Every Morning?

The answer to the above question for you might be “Yes I do,” and I completely understand. I know what it means to keep holding on to a job, not because of the fulfilment that it brings, but because of the bills that it pays. Many are currently putting up with a job they do not like because it is needed for their survival.

I am a strong believer that God wants us to be fulfilled in our place of work. He does not want us to endure life, but enjoy it. God’s desire for you is that you find your divine assignment on the earth, and then pour your entire life into it. There is always enough passion, energy, joy and fulfilment in a career God has designed for you. When you find a job you really were designed for, you’ll be willing to do it for free.  We simply become dissatisfied with our job because it is not really what we are cut out for. Job dissatisfaction is often a clue that we are in a wrong job.

As a young boy, I used to think those in white collar jobs must really love their job, as it was not physically demanding. So, early in the morning, on my way to the building site where I worked during the holidays, I would continue to access the facial expression of the passers-by, wondering if I could ascertain what their feelings were regarding their job. Do they really like going to work or do they hate it?  As for me, I only loved the money I received from the construction site, and not the work.

As I grew older, I began to understand the complexity of the reasons some do not like their job. Job dissatisfaction does not always occur as a result of the physical demand of the job. Irrespective of the nature of your job, easy or strenuous, low paid or high paid, you can find yourself struggling to keep your sanity because of the built-up resentment toward your vocation. The resentment could be as a result of your personal expectations, social stereotypes, poor wage, unrealistic expectations from your bosses, or other factors.

Whatever your reasons might be, I really do understand. I personally believe that it is impossible to maintain passion for something you do not like. Passion is energy. Passion is the power that drives one to success. Where there is no passion, there is no future. One of the greatest ingredients, in the success formula, is the ability to stay motivated. A significant future never responds to the rambling of the unmotivated or the depressed. The future belongs to the passionate.

Does it feel like you are turning up at a wrong job every morning? Do you anxiously scan through your watch wondering when it’s going to be home-time? Do you find your mind wondering all day concerning what you would have loved to be doing? Then your future is probably somewhere else. Your future is always where your mind is. Therefore, it is time you decided where you want to be. Until you decide where you will rather be, you will continue to endure your present circumstance.

On a spiritual note, every legitimate work is a gift from God.  It is also a divine command (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Also, work is problem-solving. When you solve a problem for someone, you create a reward system. Your salary or wage is simply your reward for helping your boss solve certain problems. Besides human rewards, work is also a place where God favours people. God blesses His children though their businesses. When God created Adam and Eve, He gave them work to do. He created for them a channel for increase. In Scriptures, we see How God prospered people through their work. The bible says Abraham was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold (Genesis 13:2). Isaac was faithful in his business and God prospered him (Genesis 26:12). Likewise, God gave Jacob a divine idea while in business (Genesis 30:37-39). Work is never for your survival, but a channel through which God can shower His blessings upon you and your household. Work is a seed for favour. It is the platform where Divine blessings are deposited (Deuteronomy 28:12).

Even though you do not like your current job, it is important to know that it is a divine expectation that you remain faithful and diligent in it. God can bless you anywhere you are currently located if you do what it takes to be blessed of God – thanksgiving, faith, diligent, excellence. Whatever your hands find doing, whether or not it’s your dream job, you can still experience supernatural increase. Excellence is an attitude that is compatible to any environment. You do know have to like your job before you walk in excellence. Excellence should be your lifestyle. Excellence is a seed for multiplication. When you sow excellence, you create a memory. When you excel in excellence you birth favour.

Joseph was a man of excellence and integrity. Although his dream was for rulership, he walked in integrity and excellence as a slave boy in the house of his master, Potiphar. And the bible says that God blessed Potiphar’s house for Joseph’s sake (Genesis 39:5). As a child of God, your sound attitude should be a reward to any environment you step into. Therefore while trusting God for a job of your dreams, sow integrity and excellence into your present work – diligence, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness –then watch what God will do in you and through you. Integrity will keep you in your job, but it is the addition of excellence that decides your promotion.

Regarding passion, you must identify what you love to do. What do you love to do in life? What unlocks your energy? What would you do if money was not an issue? It is important that you find something you love and then build your entire life around it. Start small. Make small realistic goals toward it. Keep your current job while going through the transition period. Begin to invest prayer, time, resources and energy toward your new goal. Let your goal begin to consume your thoughts, your conversations and your life. Passion is the birth-place for success. Obsession is the key to significance. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself regarding the years you’ve spent doing what you hate, it is time to get engrossed with your passion and you will be stunned by what you can still achieve in your life time, with God on your side.

7 Steps to Help You Realise Your dream

  1. Choose a focus that you know you were designed for. Without a focus, your mind will gather junk. Your mind is designed for focus. What do you really want in life? What unlocks passion within you? You cannot be good at everything. Even if you are good at everything, it is impossible to have an uncommon success while doing too many. The future belongs to the focused. If I say Henry Ford, you think automobile. If I say Thomas Edison, you think inventions. You must decide what your dominant gift is and then focus on it. It fine if your chosen goal seems bigger than you. But remember it is not bigger than your God. God is extremely pleasure when we completely trust regarding our future.
  2. Write your vision down and set a daily goal to reach it. A written vision is 100 times more powerful than wishful thinking. Also, what you do not do daily has no power to dominate your future. Become engrossed with your goals. Until your goal become your obsession, your future of significance can never be in view.
  3. Carefully choose a hero or heroine.  Who has been to where you want to be? Who has obtained the future you desire? Study at least two people whose achievements you have great respect for. Then, Learn swiftly from them. Mentorship is learning through the pain and experiences of another. Mentorship is the short-cut to success.
  4. Apply wisdom. If you currently have a job that is providing your means of livelihood, never give it up until your desired job or assignment is up and running and capable of supporting you and your family. This may take time, but you can be sure that you will be able to focus on your assignment and be fulfilled. Divine provision is always at the place of your assignment. Many goals and dreams die due to lack of wisdom.
  5. Develop your inter-relational skills. People matter immensely to your success. Your life will always link with others who are capable of helping you to the next chapter of your life. But if you lack people skills, such people will withdraw their participation in your goals. Many opportunities and great connections are constantly being lost due to bad attitude.
  6. Prioritise God in your life. Without God on your side, you are a disaster warming up to happen. You cannot succeed without God’s participation. Obedience is the key to Divine favour. Excel in obedience and God will ensure that His favour envelops you.
  7. Learn to be patient. Many years of hard work and investment can be lost in a day because of impatience. Nothing significant is achieved over night. Patience is simply the difference between your present and your future. Patience, in my opinion, is the highest proof of your confidence in God.

It is my prayer that God would make your dominant gift very clear to you and grant you the courage to make good decisions that will create your desired future. Amen!

Remain a blessing,

Wale
