“Never Focus Today On What You Do Not Desire In Your Future”

One of the functions of the mind is to enlarge whatever it continues to focus on. Your mind is a thought-amplifier. It magnifies the object of its attention. For instance, an emotional issue which was “nothing” last night can suddenly become “something huge and serious” this morning, because the mind has been permitted to dwell on it, and enlarge it, until one’s emotions become overwhelmed with its effects.

Hence, if you make your past pain your today’s focus, your mind will multiply its damaging effects into your future. Anything that becomes dominant in your life today will also dominate your tomorrow. Therefore, whatever does not belong in your future should not be allowed to arrest your attention today. Never contaminate your tomorrow with yesterday’s discomforts.

Refuse to make the bitterness, distresses and the disappointments of the past your today’s agenda. Everything you’ve been through in the past has a purpose – they train you to become fully ready and equipped for the future God has for you.

Forgive those who have wronged you. Likewise, forgive yourself of those sins and despicable things you once put your hands into, in which you still struggle to pardon yourself. If God has forgiven you and set you free, you have no right to hold yourself captive any longer (Romans 8:1-4; 1John 1:9; John 8:36).

Cast your past burden upon the Lord and access His sustaining capability (Psalm 55:22). Then, begin to focus on those things you desire in your future. Concentrate your mind on God’s promises. Begin to capture the thoughts of God on the platform of your imagination (Philippians 4:8). Allow the Holy Spirit to renew your thoughts and attitude (Ephesians 4:23). Fix your thoughts and confessions today on the promises of God and you will reap in your future the unprecedented harvests of peace and fulfilment (Isaiah 26:3).

“”Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19
