The Liberating Power of The Word

Text: James 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

 Foundation:

  • Jesus is the Word.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Revelation 19:13  “He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

  • The word of God is truth.

John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

Psalm 119:160 “The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”

Psalm 119:43 “And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, For I have hoped in Your ordinances. (Romans 5:5)

  • Jesus is the Truth.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

  • The Truth sets free.

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Jesus is the truth that liberates. His blood has redeemed us from death and the curse of the law (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 3:13). By His righteousness we are delivered from the dominion of darkness. Colossians 1:13-14, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Psalm 119:92, “If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.

Psalm 119:50, “This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has revived me.

Jesus’ Assignments on the earth

He came to liberate us from death, sin and satanic oppressions.

Text: Isaiah 61:1:4

Psalm 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

Acts 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

1 John 3:8 “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

The truth that you know is the truth the will set you free.

John 8:31-32 “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Your knowledge of the truth is always proportionate to the freedom you enjoy. The knowledge of the word of god is the key that unlocks every gate of bondage, captivity and entanglement in your life. Hosea 4:6; Isaiah 5:13; Proverbs 10:21 “The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.”

Do you have a passion for the truth? Do you believe that Jesus who is the Word of God and the truth can sets you free from any bondage in your life? What is it that is holding you back from trusting Him regarding your situations? Which direction do you focus on for help in times of trouble? Who is it that comes to your mind whenever you are in crisis? Where have you decided to focus your confidence? Whose instructions are you willing to follow?  Who have you decided to believe?

Your reactions to the Lord Jesus, who is the Word of God, determine whether or not you will attract divine intervention for your freedom. Reactions determine destiny.

Now let’s look at a man whose reactions to Jesus scheduled his deliverance.

Matthew 8:1-3 “When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”

What were the leper’s reactions to the Person of Jesus? Your reactions reveal your passion, your character, your interest and your faith? I study the bible to know God, but I study reactions to know people.

3 Powerful Reactions that Trigger the Miraculous

  • Pursuit. The leper pursued the presence and attention of Jesus. He came to Jesus. Pursuit is a proof of passion. Pursuit is a seed for discovery. Pursuit is a proof of trust. You are not divinely authorised to receive anything you are unwilling to reach for. Reaching is the seed for receiving.

Matthew 11:28-30  “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

  • Worship. The leper worshipped. Worship reveals humility. Your worship is proof of your submission. When you approach God in worship, God documents your submissiveness towards Him. Humility is the seed for restoration and promotion. When you come worshipping you document your willingness to focus on the authority of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, instead of your problems. Worship is a focus corrector. It takes your focus away from the bigness of your problems, and aligns your focus to the greatness of God. Worship shrinks the size of your problems and magnifies the liberating power of God.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

  • Belief. The leper believed in the liberating power of Jesus. He said to Jesus ““Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” He had no doubt whatsoever in the capability of Jesus to destroy his leprosy. Rather he highlighted the sovereignty of Christ and humbly requested for His willingness. Jesus sensed the aroma of his faith and humility and then touch him and said, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”

What is faith? Faith is confidence in God and His Word (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is being fully persuaded that what God has promised in His Word, He is also able to perform it (Romans 4:20). Faith is the divine authorisation for the miraculous. Faith is the seed for divine intervention. The bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Faith authorizes God to destroy every yoke of bondage and captivity in your life.

How does faith come? Faith is birthed when you hear God speak. Faith is generated by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17)

Do you believe in the liberating power of Jesus Christ? Do you believe you can be liberated from sicknesses, from diseases, poverty, hopelessness, addictions, unbelief, doubts, inferiority complex, anxiety, depressions?

Are you willing to pursue Jesus? Are you willing to reach for Him? What is it that is hindering you from falling on your knees in worship?

What is it that is keeping you from surrendering to His mighty power for help? What is keeping you from believing in the lord Jesus for your deliverance and provisions?    Mark 9:23 “Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24

If it is doubt that is sabotaging your faith in God, why don’t you ask Holy Spirit to help you and destroy the seeds of doubts in you through His Word?
