Your focus – the law of liberty

But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.  James 1:25

“Your focus decides the failure or success of your enemies. Your focus decides your stress or your peace. Your focus decides what multiplies or diminishes in your life. If I know what your focus is, I can predict your future. Samson focused on a sinful relationship with Delilah and created for himself a tragic future. But Joseph focused on the Lord and His manifested goodness, and was lifted from the prison to the palace.”

Broken focus can lead to unwelcome situations: shooting an arrow, driving a car, driving away with your belongings on the roof because you put them there while fastening your child in the back!

  • When it comes to broken focus, what is or has been the main issue for you? Short-term focus / medium-term focus/ long-term focus? Eg? Do you think this depends on the gender of the person? (If confused, substitute the word ‘focus’ for ‘goal’.)
  • When it comes to maintaining focus, can you think of an instance in your life whereby you reaped the reward / enjoyed the success of achieving a particular goal?
  • How has focussing on the Word of God benefited you in times of challenge?
  • What are your main distractions or hindrances that prevent you from focussing on the Word of God?
