Mentorship – Your Bridge to Success

Success is simply the achieving of a worthy goal in life. Every time you realise a particular goal in your life, you experience success. Success is what you feel whenever your expectation is fulfilled. Humans were shaped for success. God wrought everyone specifically for triumph.

The desire to succeed in humans is a divine trait. This is because we were formed in the image of God who is the embodiment of indescribable success.

You were designed for accomplishments. Your personality, gifts, talents and opportunities were carefully assembled by the Holy Spirit for your increase. Therefore it is a divine intention that you succeed in life. So, embrace this divine purpose of increase. Celebrate it, and be thankful for it.

We all define success differently. Everyone interprets and measures success in a different way. What success is to you may not be what it is to me. For example, Success to you might mean becoming a millionaire, whereas success to another might mean being able to train up his children in the way of the Lord. But whatever success is to you, mentorship is the shortcut to it. There is someone somewhere who knows what you do not know. The information crucial to your joy has been written and published, sitting in a bookstore somewhere.

Mentorship is impartation of wisdom. Mentorship is learning through the disappointments, discoveries, pain and experiences of another. Mentorship is learning from a proven teacher – someone who has succeeded in the path you are intending to tread. Mentorship is avoiding the horrifying experiences others have been through.

Your success will require more than your mind. You will need to access the mind of God (through the help of The Holy Spirit) and also the minds of men and women whose accomplishments your respect. God has hidden keys to success in different individuals. Therefore, instead of painfully learning from your mistakes, you can choose to learn from a mentor. Mentorship is a divine short-cut to greatness.

Mentoring is scriptural. The bible makes it clear that the Holy Spirit is the most important mentor on the earth (Acts 1:8; Luke 24:49). He is our master mentor (John 14:26; John 16:13-15). He teaches us. He corrects us. He empowers us. Your relationship with the Holy Spirit is the most important relationship in your life. He is God with us. He is the only one who requires no explanation about you of your past. He understands the full history of your past. He is the one who formed you. He gave you life, and decided your personalities, gifts, and even the womb where you were conceived. That is why Jesus told the disciples to wait until they were endued with the power from on High (Luke 24:49). No human can accomplish the purpose of our heavenly father without the help of the Holy Spirit. Ministry is a joke unless the Spirit of God is the architect. The Holy Spirit is our trusted teacher. He is God here with us.

While the mentoring of the Holy Spirit is crucial to our fulfilment, human mentorship has its place regarding success. The bible says that, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised” (Hebrews 6:12).The impartation of others regarding our goals is extremely important (Proverbs 2:20). Mentoring is rescuing. Mentoring is salvaging others from a potential calamity. Mentoring is empowering. It is a seed for wisdom. Jesus demonstrated this when He called His twelve disciples. He invested his time, energy and wisdom into their lives. He also warned them of the potential dangers and confronted their ignorance. He taught them continuously.

The bible is a book about mentoring (Romans 15:4). Behind every great man or woman in the bible was a trusted mentor. Elijah mentored Elisha. Mordecai mentored Esther. Naomi mentored Ruth. Paul mentored Timothy. Mentors are the difference between success and failure. Until you recognise and connect to a mentor, it becomes difficult to maintain uninterrupted passion for your goals. The capability of your mind to focus becomes heightened when it has a hero to imitate.

If you desire to be significant in life, you will have to identify someone you can learn from. You will have to become skilful at tapping into another person’s mind, whose wisdom and accomplishment you adore. Connect with someone whose present and future contains your passion. Choose a proven mentor. Every mentor has a different deposit, therefore choose wisely. If you desire to be a heavy weight champion of the world, for example, do you choose for yourself a coach who has never boxed in his life? Of course not! You will ask for the service of someone who has trained famous boxers. It is your goals for the future that should decide who your mentor should be.

Furthermore, I am a firm believer that various mentors are needed in different areas of life. . It is then our responsibility to explore the varieties of special deposits in people in our world. For example, if you require mentorship regarding your health, the best person to go to may not be your pastor, unless he is also a doctor. God has put different gifting and qualities into different individuals for our benefits. Therefore, as you journey in life, it is possible that various mentors will be necessary for various accomplishments your life, some for a little while, while others for a life time.

Regarding your divine assignment on the earth, it is important that you identify at least two people whose focuses unleash your energy. Then learn from them swiftly. As you learn from them, always remember that your mentors are human beings. They will make mistakes. They have their challenges and weaknesses. They even face the same devil that you face. But your focus should not be in their weaknesses or flaws, but in their strengths. Pay attention to their principles for success. Be attentive to what they know that you do not know. Look for what they have seen that you have not seen. Above all, become masterful at learning from their pain, disappointments and regrets.

Whose wisdom and accomplishments do you cherish? Whose passion unlocks energy and enthusiasm within you? Whose counsel are you willing to pursue?  What is it that is hindering you from learning from others? Do you consider yourself teachable? Or do you find it difficult to submit and access others’ wisdom? How is your relationship with the Holy Spirit? Do you consult His counsel often or occasionally?

The reason for a mentor is not just to help us success, but also to teach us how to submit to others. Embracing mentorship, be it with the Holy Spirit or with another human, is proof of humility. Unless you are humble, you will resent correction. The unwillingness to be corrected is the greatest obstacles to a significant future. Teachability is the seed for greatness. Your future is decided by whose counsel you follow.

It is my prayer that this article would help birth in your heart a passion for mentorship. May the mentorship of the Holy Spirit become dominant in your life for divine wisdom. I also pray that the Holy Spirit would order your steps to uncommon mentors whose wisdom will birth your joy desired future. Amen
